A Memorable Year 6 Production: Beauty and the Beast

Every year, our school hosted a special performance where parents could watch their children shine on stage. But the Year 6 production was always the highlight—a grand event marking the end of primary school. For my first child, this milestone came with an exciting challenge: performing in “Beauty and the Beast.”

At first, she was disappointed to be cast as the beggar and fairy—the one who transforms the selfish prince into the Beast. She had hoped for a bigger role, but as she thought about it more, she realized something important. This character sets the entire story in motion—without her, there would be no Beast, no lesson to learn, and no tale as old as time! With that perspective shift, her excitement grew, and she took on the role with newfound enthusiasm.

She practiced tirelessly, perfecting the dramatic moment when she casts the spell, adjusting her tone to make the scene as impactful as possible. Seeing her dedication, I couldn’t help but feel proud of her commitment to even a seemingly small role.

When I attended the rehearsals, I noticed that some children struggled to memorize their lines. But what amazed me was how, on the actual performance day, every single student delivered their lines flawlessly. The energy in the room was electric. Parents watched in awe as the students performed with confidence, passion, and teamwork. The grand finale brought roaring applause, and I realized how much effort, resilience, and growth these kids had shown throughout the journey.

This Year 6 theater experience was more than just a school play; it was a powerful lesson in embracing every role, working hard, and supporting one another. And for my child, that “small” part turned into one of the most unforgettable moments of her school years.
